Dorian Cooke

Dorian Cooke is Principal Bassoon of the residentie orchestra of the Hague.

Dorian Cooke, born in 1975 in The Hague, studied bassoon at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Johan Steinmann and followed masterclasses with Brian Pollard. After graduation she continued her studies in Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler with Prof. Klaus Thunemann and Frank Forst.


Dorian was previously the solo Bassoon of the Orchestra of the East (1997-1998), the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (1998-2000) and since 2000 she holds this position at the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague.

Besides the music in the orchestra, her passion is also mainly related to playing in chamber music.

Since 1998, she has been a member of the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, with which she frequently performs at home and abroad and has recorded dozens of CDs. She also plays at the contemporary ensemble Nieuw Amsterdams Peil and she is regularly heard at the Orlando Festival in Kerkrade.


A number of composers, including Frigyes Hidas, Theodor Burkali, Stephen Melillo, Vincente Magar and Harrie Janssen, wrote compositions for her. Recordings have been released on CD.
