While selecting the best saxophone reed you can choose of different brands, series and materials. Most reeds are made from reed, the plant, but there are also synthetic reeds. Furthermore, there are always different strengths within a series of reeds. Most brands use a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the most flexible reed and 5 the stiffest. It is important to find a good balance that suits you. Natural reeds are usually sold in sets of 3, 5 or 10. Synthetic reeds are sold individually.
