Simone Rubino

Simone Rubino, winner of the ARD-Musikwettbewerb in 2014, the Crédit Suisse Young Artists Award at Lucerne Festival in 2016 and a BBT Fellowship in 2020, is part of a new era of percussionists who have established themselves in the classical concert world. He is committed to expanding the percussion repertoire and collaborates with composers such as Carlo Boccadoro, Avner Dorman, Adriano Gaglianello and Aziza Sadikova.

Rubino premiered Dorman’s Eternal Rhythm in 2018 with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester. In February 2020 he premiered Boccadoro’s percussion concerto L’elettricità dei sogni with the Orchestra della Toscana and Daniele Rustioni. He opened the 2019/20 season at the Staatsoper Hannover with Peter Eötvös’ Speaking Drums (Kevin John Edusei), later working with Konzerthausorchester Berlin (Michael Sanderling), Tiroler Symphonieorchester (Kerem Hasan) and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi (John Axelrod). Chamber partners have included Lucas & Arthur Jussen, Alexej Gerassimez, Simon Höfele and Enrico Dindo.

Rubino has performed as a soloist with Wiener Philharmoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Münchner Philharmoniker, SWR Symphonieorchester and many others. He has also worked with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Gimeno, Tugan Sokhiev, Tan Dun, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Manfred Honeck, Joshua Weilerstein, Elim Chan and Francesco Angelico.

He is a welcome guest at renowned festivals such as La Folle Journée in France and Japan, Rheingau Musik Festival, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and Pfingstfestspiele in Baden-Baden.

In 2019 Simone became percussion professor at the university of Music HEMU in Lausanne and Gast professor at the Universität Der Künste in Berlin. In 2020, during the pandemic, Simone filmed an opera Il Ritmo della terra – which features him singing as well as playing – commissioned by him from Lamberto Curtoni.
