Ramon Lormans
As pioneering marimbist and percussionist, Ramon Lormans is one of the most sought-after musicians of his generation. He has been praised for his deep understanding of music, colorful playing and his open-minded way of creating new worlds and experiences for both his musical partners as his audience.
Ramon's Adams Gear
Ramon has been professor of marimba and chamber music at the Codarts Conservatory Rotterdam classical percussion department since 2015. He is the founder and artistic director of Mallet Collective, a collective with players from all over Europe performing in various settings from duo to octet, with a focus on creating new music for the ensemble. He is drummer / percussionist in TEMKO, an adventurous trio with electric guitar and bass guitar exploring the borders of post minimalism, improvisation, industrial rock and contemporary composed music. Ramon is the main percussionist of the Berlin-based chamber ensemble S T A R G A Z E, exploring contemporary classical music and cross-overs with many pop artists and bands. In the project ‘Hier om de Hoek’ Ramon plays marimba and drums with two Dutch singer-songwriters. Furthermore, Ramon explores and specializes in Baroque hand percussion in Suspirium Ensemble, deepening his understanding and playing styles for music before 1800.











Ramon won the ‘Grachtenfestival concours’ 2012 (with Sax & Stix), won the ‘Vriendenkrans concours’ in 2008 (with Sax & Stix) and the International Chamber Music Competition Almere in 2007 (with Sax & Stix). He also won third prize at the TROMP Percussion Competition in 2006 and first prize at the Prinses Christina Concours in 2004.
Creating new repertoire is a mission for Ramon. He has performed over 150 world premieres during the last 20 years. His collaborations with composers result in new masterpieces and remain within the percussion repertoire, both in solo and chamber music. Composers he has worked with include Louis Andriessen, David Longstreth (Dirty Projectors), Joey Roukens, Sarah Neutkens, Anne-Maartje Lemereis, Anthony Fiumara, James Wood, Aart Strootman, Misha Sporck, Hans Koolmees, Kate Moore, Nik Bärtsch, Jo Sporck, Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Qasim Naqvi (Dawn of Midi), Frederick Rzewski, Wim Henderickx, Anja Plaschg (Soap & Skin), Peter van Onna, David Six, Arone Dyer (Buke & Gaze) and Jacob ter Veldhuis, among others.
