Marimbist Ramon Lormans is considered not only one of the most interesting musical personalities of his generation, but also one of the most wanted Dutch percussionists. He touches the audience with his passionate performance and communicative stage presence.

In the past few seasons, Ramon has performed in big venues and festivals, both in the Netherlands and abroad. He also plays in chamber music projects with his duo Sax & Stix and the Lunapark ensemble. As a marimbist he regularly performs with Brisk recorder quartet, Karin Strobos, Liza Ferschtman, the IJ-salon, the Dutch National Children’s Choir and the Storioni trio, the Radio Kootwijk collective and musicians from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
As a solo artist, Ramon has performed with the Lunapark, the Dutch National Children’s Choir, the Brabants Orkest and the Dutch Studenten Kamerkoor during the Old Music festival in Paris.

Since 2008, Ramon has taught Marimba at the Amsterdam Conservatory alongside Peter Prommel. He has also been the Artistic director for the Percussion Friends since 2002. This bipartite school consists of a “Summer Academy” and a “talent class” for young Dutch percussionists.
Ramon is sponsored by Adams Musical Instruments and plays a 5-octave Artist Classic marimba.

With his duo Sax & Stix (with Eva van Grinsven – saxophones), Ramon regularly performs in a unique setting. Sax & Stix both generates new music and produces its own arrangements. In 2007 the duo was awarded first place by both the jury and the audience during the International Chamber Music Competition Almere, and in 2008 they also won the Vriendenkrans competition, which was set up by the Concertgebouw and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. At this point, they were performing in the bigger Dutch venues, in radio programmes Viertakt and Avro Spiegelzaal and on television during Vrije Geluiden. In October 2010, Sax & Stix were invited to the New York CAG Competition, and on 10 December 2010 the duo played at the Instituut Neerlandais in Paris (France). Furthermore, Sax & Stix were guests in the Avro Radio 4 / internet rogramma VIRUS. They recorded their first CD in March 2012: “New Amsterdam”.

In 2006, Ramon received third prize for his performance at the Trom International Music Competition, and in 2004 he won first place during the Prinses Christina Concours, which entitled him to playing a solo recital in Carnegie Hall (New York, USA).

As an orchestral percussionist, Ramon is a regular guest at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Radio Kamerfilharmonie, Radio Philharmonisch Orchestra, Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orchestra, the Brabants Orchestra, Residentie Orchestra, the Gelders Orchestra, Dutch Wind Ensemble, Ensemble JONG and Ives Ensemble.
In seasons 2008/2009 and 2009/2010, Ramon was involved with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra as an academy percussionist.

Ramon started playing percussion instruments when he was only five years old, and was taught by his father Jacques.
He was discovered by Willy Goudswaard, and in 1998 he gained a place in the Young Talent Class of the Tilburg Conservatory. In 2006, Ramon finished his bachelor’s degree (cum laude) after studying at Tilburg Conservatory for two years and finishing his studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Arnold Marinissen, Peter de Vries, Jan Pustjens, Nick Woud, Gustavo Gimeno, Victor Oskam, Peter Prommel and Bart Schneeman.

In 2010 Ramon received his cum laude Master’s degree in marimba and chamber music from the Amsterdam Conservatory. He was taught by Willem Brons, Peter Prommel, and Victor Oskam.
