Ge Chen
Ge Chen was born in 1991. She began playing piano at the tender age of 4 and, under her father’s guidance, later began percussion studies. In 2004, she was admitted to the Affiliated High School of the Central Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Professor Zhao Ji. In 2010, she earned a full scholarship to study in Cleveland, USA, under Tom Freer, principal percussionist of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, and marimbist/percussionist Gwen Burgett. In 2014, Ge Chen was accepted into the Strasbourg Conservatory of Music in France, studying with the world-renowned percussion composer and performer Emmanuel Séjourné.
In recent years, Ge Chen has successfully presented and participated in numerous arts festivals, including the China (Shenzhen) Culture Expo Art Festival, the International Percussion Competition, and the Jianli Percussion Art Festival. She also appeared at the Shanxi Poly Grand Theater Huimin Project “Changfeng Night”, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra’s Classical Leader Series Concert at the China Resources Land Art Space, and the PASIC Ohio Percussion Festival of the American Percussion Association. At the same time, Ge Chen and her father co-founded the Fengdong percussion ensemble. As artistic director, she planned and performed in many concerts that received enthusiastic acclaim from across the arts community.
In 2018, the Marimba Concerto No.7 The Legend of White Snake by Belgian composer and percussionist Chin-cheng Lin, commissioned and written for Ge Chen, premiered on tour in China. She has also been invited as a soloist to perform with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Hebei Symphony Orchestra, Xinghai Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, and Shanxi University Philharmonic Orchestra, earning high attention and favorable reviews from the industry.
