Ivan Mancinelli

Ivan Mancinelli can boast an intense concert activity in both chamber ensembles and orchestras, as well as as a soloist. Ivan Mancinelli has toured Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, the United States, Bulgaria, Slovakia, China and Thailand.

He graduated summa cum laude with Mr. Forestiere (Conservatory N. Piccinni, Bari), and with Mr. Peter Sadlo (Mozarteum Salzburg). In 1999 he met H. W. Henze in Munich, working on the Maestro’s chamber opera El Cimarrón. Several performances of the piece followed: in Salzburg (Salzburger Festspieleröffnung, Festival Aspekte), Tübingen (Kammeroper), Monopoli (Conservatory), Hallein (Junge Kultur), Hamburg (NDR), Nürnberg (Theater Nürnberg).

He has premiered many works by composers such as Stefano Taglietti, Stefan Hakenberg, Agustín Castilla-Ávila, S.E. Panzer and Balz Trümpy, performing their works at venues including Teatro civico in Sassari (Sardinia), Theater Konstanz, Sommertheater Überlingen, Festival “Sommer im Altmühltal” in Ingolstadt, Mozarteum Salzburg, Romanischer Sommer Köln, Festival Mammut Glyphix in Salzburg, California State University in Fresno, Festival “Les arts florissants de la Sardaigne” in Paris, and the Festival for Contemporary Music in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. In 2008 he debuted as a soloist at the Gasteig in Munich.

Since 2003, Ivan Mancinelli has been frequently invited as a guest percussionist by the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Turin. In the same year his essay Cello Suites, dal Violoncello alla Marimba (Cello Suites – from the Violoncello to the Marimba) was published by Italian publisher Edizioni Pugliesi – Martina Franca.

In 2006 his solo CD featuring Bach’s six Cello Suites, transcribed for marimba, was released by Bongiovanni Records Bologna. In 2007 Hans Werner Henze’s El Cimarron was released on the Wergo label. In 2008 his duo CD (guitar and marimba) with guitarist Christina Schorn was released by Bongiovanni Records; in the same year the El Cimarron Ensemble released their new CD “Hakenberg / Taglietti” on VDMRecords.

Since November 2005, Ivan Mancinelli has been teaching at the Conservatory in Sassari, Sardinia. He plays exclusively on Adams Musical Instruments.
