Andrew Chan

Marimbist / Percussionist Acclaimed as gone of the most promising young budding marimba playersh by the well-known composer Peter Klatzow, Andrew Chan began his percussion studies at high school in Macau and received various awards in the Macao Youth Musicians Competitions.

Andrew Chan is a versatile percussionist and marimbist known for his dynamic solo and ensemble performances. He holds a Master of Music Studies in Percussion Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Australia, where he studied under Richard Miller, Claire Edwardes, and Daryl Pratt. During his time there, he was awarded multiple scholarships and accolades, including winning the 2009 Sydney Conservatorium Concerto Competition and placing first and second in the Open Marimba Solo category at the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod in 2009 and 2010.

Andrew has performed internationally at festivals and concerts across Asia and Australia. Notable appearances include solo performances at the TAA Taiwan International Hi-End Hi-Fi Show, “Celebrate Macau” in Australia, the Australian Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, the Australian Percussion Gathering Gala, and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. He has also been engaged with the Sydney Sinfonia and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, performing regularly at the Sydney Opera House.

In 2010, Andrew was featured as an emerging artist at the Australian Percussion Gathering, where he was the only solo marimbist to share the stage with renowned percussionists Steven Schick and Sylvio Gualda. He later performed under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas as a member of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra in 2011.

Andrew’s growing international profile has also led to media appearances in China, including a debut on CCTV4’s “Chinese World” as an emerging artist. He was invited to perform at the “Made in China & Australia – East Meets West” cultural event and played for dignitaries including the Premier of New South Wales and the Governor of Guangdong Province.

In 2013, Andrew represented the Macao Special Administrative Region at the Beijing Modern Music Festival. He is an official artist endorser of Adams Musical Instruments (Netherlands) and Encore Mallets (USA). His debut percussion and marimba album ONE was released by China Records.
