Tibor Kerekeš
Tibor Kerekeš was born in 1968 in Subotica (Vojvodina) to Hungarian parents. He began playing the trumpet at the age of nine, which at that time was considered unusually young for a brass instrument. During primary and secondary school, he won first prizes in regional and national competitions.
After moving to Ljubljana in 1987, he received a scholarship from the Slovenian Philharmonic. One year later, at just twenty years old, he became a permanent member of the orchestra. That same year he won an international competition for young musicians in Zagreb. A year later he received the Student Prešeren Prize and was soon appointed principal trumpet of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. He graduated in 1992 from the Ljubljana Academy of Music in the class of Anton Grcar and continued postgraduate studies with the same professor. He furthered his studies with Pierre Thibaud and György Geiger. He became assistant in 1991, assistant professor in 1998 and full professor in 2000. He is also a member of the Slovenian Philharmonic Brass Ensemble.
In addition to his orchestral and teaching activities, Tibor is active as a soloist and chamber musician. He has collaborated with the Slovenian, Maribor, Zagreb and Belgrade Philharmonics, the Montenegro Symphony Orchestra and numerous chamber ensembles. He has performed under conductors such as Kleiber, Mehta, Muti, Simonov and Pehlivanian. He is also active as a studio musician for film scores and pop productions.
His recordings include Musical Highlights of the Baroque, Trumpet Concertos, Meeting (crossover) and Brilliant Baroque.
