Lin Weidong

He successively studied with: Li Liguang (deceased), percussionist of the Fujian Symphony Orchestra; Lin Xinyuan, percussion instructor at Fujian Arts School; Yang Ruwen, percussion professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music; Li Yajuan, percussion professor at Xinghai Conservatory of Music; Jin Jiguang, president of the Chinese Music Association Percussion Society; and Li Biao, professor at the Central Conservatory of Music.

In 2014, he was admitted to the Percussion major of the Orchestra Department of the Central Conservatory of Music with honors. In 2016, he won the gold medal in the pentathlon professional group of the 11th China National Percussion Competition, second place in multi-percussion, first place in vibraphone, first place in marimba, and first place in timpani.

From 2014 to 2021, he served as the principal of the percussion department of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, he gave solo percussion concerts at the Central Conservatory of Music Concert Hall and Jiuritai Concert Hall. He was featured in publications such as "Music Weekly" and "People's Music Magazine". He has performed in numerous high-level concerts with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the Central Conservatory of Music, Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, Dunshan Symphonic Wind Orchestra, among others.

In 2017, he entered the graduate program of the Central Conservatory of Music with exemption from the entrance examination. In November, he participated in the Chinese Chamber Opera Promotion Program, receiving praise from many composers and directors. In December, he served as a percussion lecturer for the Art Education course of the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

In April 2019, he was invited to perform at the 3rd Art Season Percussion Concert at Capital Normal University. From 2019 to 2020, he was awarded the Central Conservatory of Music Scholarship for Academic Excellence and the Zhao Ji Percussion Scholarship — the only scholarship in China specifically dedicated to percussion.

Lin Weidong is committed to the development and promotion of contemporary Chinese percussion works and has premiered and recorded many new compositions. His solo work "Shadow Puppet" and the mixed chamber work "Asian Copper" were selected for the Beijing Culture and Art Fund and the Moscow Art Talents Composition Collection, respectively. At the “Yanhuang Cup” Percussion Composition Competition in China, his percussion quintet "Vector II" won a Composition Award, while his solo work "The Trace of Shadow" won both the Composition Award and Best Performance Award. In 2021, he held two academic concerts titled "Minimalism in Percussion I & II" at the Central Conservatory of Music, which received widespread acclaim. He also published a paper titled "Percussion Works and Their Interpretation under Minimalism," which was selected as an excellent academic paper by the Conservatory.

As a percussion soloist, Lin Weidong is active in major concerts and public benefit performances. He has played at venues including the National Grand Theater, Beijing Zhongshan Concert Hall, Beijing Concert Hall, Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, Central Conservatory of Music Concert Hall, Jiuritai Concert Hall, Shanghai Concert Hall, Fujian Grand Theater, Jinan Grand Theater, Guangzhou Grand Theater, Tianjin Grand Theater, among others. Over the course of his studies and career, he has participated in nearly 100 performances, including solo, ensemble, contemporary, symphonic, and chamber music concerts. Lin Weidong continues to grow as both a musician and educator, striving to create more beautiful musical moments while enriching his knowledge and artistry.
