Haiyu Wang
Haiyu Wang is currently the Associate Principal Tuba with the China NCPA Orchestra. He previously served as an Assistant Instructor of Tuba at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. From 2011 to 2014, he held the Principal Tuba position with the China National Symphony Orchestra. Concurrently, he taught tuba to both college and high school students at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Since 2008, he has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony, and Macao Orchestra.
Haiyu Wang's Adams Gear
In 2015, Haiyu won First Prize at the Solo Artist Competition at the Northeast Regional Tuba & Euphonium Conference. He also won First Prize at the Central Conservatory Brass Competition in 2010. He was a semi-finalist or finalist in several international competitions, including the 51st International Competition in Markneukirchen, the Jeju International Brass Competition, and the International Performer Competition in Brno. In 2015, he participated in the Pacific Music Festival, where he worked with Valery Gergiev.
Born and raised in China, Haiyu began studying music seriously at the age of 10, starting with the flute. At 13, he was accepted into the Music School affiliated with the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music, where he began his tuba studies under the guidance of Professor Bingyu Hu. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore in 2011 and his Master of Music degree, along with the coveted Performer’s Certificate, from Indiana University in 2017.
