Solo Trumpet of the São Paulo Municipal Theatre Symphony Orchestra
Fernando Lopez began his musical journey on the euphonium at the age of 9, studying with his father, Maestro Lucas Guimarães. At just 11 years old, he joined the São Paulo State Symphonic Band as a euphonium player. In 1986, he switched to trumpet, once again under the guidance of his father.
From 1990 to 1993, he studied with Sérgio Cascapera, and from 1994 to 1997 with Sétimo Paiolletti at the Free University of Music in São Paulo. During this time, he also took lessons with Harold Palladino (Lele).
In 1998, Fernando became solo trumpet of the São Paulo State Symphonic Band, a position he held until December 2003, recording several CDs. From 1995 to 1999, he toured Portugal, the USA, Angola, Uruguay and Colombia as trumpet player for Brazilian artist Roberta Miranda. He also performed with renowned Brazilian artists such as Ivan Lins, Zizi Possi, and Guilherme Arantes.
In December 2003, he was appointed Solo Trumpet of the São Paulo Municipal Theatre Symphony Orchestra. In March 2009, he performed J. Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto with this orchestra under Maestro Rodrigo Carvalho. In October 2009, he played at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York with the Bachiana Filarmônica and Dave Brubeck, conducted by Maestro João Carlos Martins. In December 2012, he again performed Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 with the orchestra.
Fernando Lopez plays on an Adams A4 and Adams C1 trumpet.
