Flute History in 7 Flutes

Vendredi 21 avril 2023 | 15:30 - 16:30 | Salle de demo

An exciting concert presentation!

On the basis of 7 historical and modern flutes, Katja Pitelina sheds light on the history of the flute in this concert presentation.

Katja shows what the instruments sound like, what the sound possibilities are, what their specific sound characters are and how composers have adapted their repertoire for flute to them over the centuries.
In this concert/lecture, Katja gives a general overview and sheds light on the origins of the flute, its various manifestations, from the mid-fifteenth century: the repertoire, and the stylistic characteristics of the different periods: the Renaissance, the Baroque, the Classical period, Romanticism, the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Katja also explains in which rooms flute music originally sounded and in which cultural contexts. From court, to salon and public concert hall. Spaces that kept getting bigger and that demanded instruments with an ever-increasing volume, to which flute makers have adapted their instruments, and composers have tuned their works to. Everything is interrelated. You will hear works for solo flute by Hotteterre, Telemann, Mozart, Kuhlau, Briccialdi, Debussy, Bozza and Vasks on historical instruments for which the composers wrote this music.
