Adams Master C Trumpet
The Adams Master Series C trumpet stands as a pinnacle of design, blending timeless craftsmanship with the forefront of innovation through our collaboration with John Hagstrom of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This instrument is an homage to the mature, resonant sound of vintage orchestral C trumpets, while pushing the boundaries of musical innovation to equip musicians with an unparalleled tool for performance and expression.
This trumpet distinguishes itself by delivering precise intonation and a range of tone colors that rival the very best of vintage C trumpets. Its design ensures responsive and balanced playability, enhancing a musician’s accuracy, endurance, and confidence. The Master C acts as a conduit between the rich heritage of past musical traditions and the dynamic requirements of modern performance, embodying a perfect blend of history and progress.
Years of meticulous testing and optimization have culminated in a trumpet distinguished by its .50 brass bell in silver plate, featuring a 123mm bell flare and French bead for a resonant, commanding sound. The Adams valve block Model C3, with its Nickel Silver balusters, Yellow Brass casing, and a large 11.7mm bore, complements the top centre stainless steel valves, which are equipped with brass valve guides, ensuring smooth action and reliable performance.

John Hagstrom (CSO) about the Master Series C Trumpet:
Features of the Master C trumpet
The Master C trumpet is designed with meticulous attention to detail. Below you'll read about the most important features that make the instrument such a great performance tool.
Hidden reversed lead pipe and tuning slide
The Adams C3/2R hidden reversed lead pipe, meticulously seamed and hand-hammered, surpasses traditional hydroformed lead pipes in quality. It is harmoniously balanced with the mouthpiece receiver and the main tuning slide, ensuring optimal resistance, easy slotting, and superb intonation across all dynamic levels. The longer lead pipe and short D-shaped main tuning slide create the tonal expressivity known from vintage C trumpets. The finger hook is not soldered directly to the leadpipe to avoid negative influences on tone quality.
Precision Valve Block
Constructed from a blend of brass and nickel components, the elongated valve casing complements the precision-engineered stainless steel valves with brass guides. Built in the Bauerfeind tradition of exceptional quality, the weight and design are perfected through rigorous testing, ensuring a rich, resonant tone that embodies our commitment to excellence. The Master C trumpet comes with two sets of individually weighted nickel silver bottom caps. Lighter caps for a brighter sound and easier coloring, and heavier caps for more center and body in the sound.
Patented Hagstem: Continuously adjustable Valve Alignment Technology
Featuring the revolutionary 'Hagstem', this adjustable valve stem technology, patented by John Hagstrom, allows for unparalleled customization of valve alignment. This innovation provides musicians with the ability to fine-tune their instrument's response and tone color, achieving perfect harmony between music, player and trumpet. A feature that easily solves challenges such as the struggle to play softly after lots of loud playing.
Superior Bell Construction
Experience the depth and clarity of the Master C trumpet’s bell, reverse-engineered to capture the acclaimed sound of vintage orchestral C trumpets. Its finely calibrated dimensions ensure stability, beauty, and a versatile tone color across all registers, setting a new standard in trumpet design.
Extra brace on 1st Valve Slide
The first valve slide includes an extra brass brace, enhancing the definition and clarity of every note. This thoughtful addition improves the instrument's overall sound quality, offering musicians a clearer, more defined playing experience.
Extended 3rd Valve Slide
With an extended 3rd valve slide, the Master Series C trumpet offers enhanced pitch control and the ability to reach a low F when extended. This feature allows for greater musical expression and versatility in performance.
French Bead
The semi-cylindrical French bead enhances the feedback of sound to the performer, ultimately improving playability and sound quality. This design refinement ensures that musicians can feel more connected to their instrument, enhancing the overall playing experience.
Casted nickel silver Z-braces
Carefully placed casted nickel silver Z-braces ensure optimal response and tonal quality. The thoughtful balance of weight and design enhances the instrument's resonance and playability, embodying the Adams commitment to musical excellence.
Development Artist
John Hagstrom (Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
John Hagstrom joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s trumpet section as fourth trumpet in 1996. A year later, he won the Orchestra’s second trumpet position, carrying on the tradition of brass section teamwork for which the CSO is famous. Previously, he was principal trumpet of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra in Kansas and served as assistant professor of trumpet at Wichita State University.
A native Chicagoan, Hagstrom grew up listening to the CSO. He studied at the Eastman School of Music and for six years was a member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C., where he spent three of those years as principal trumpet.
