Christina Fassbender

Sankyo artist Christina Fassbender will be at our festival to teach master classes on Saturday. She is alos in the jury of the competition.

Christina Fassbender was a student of Prof. Jean-Claude Gerard at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule from 1993 until 2001 (Diploma, 1999; Soloist-Diploma 2001). From 1998, she concurrently pursued post-graduate studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and took part in masterclasses with Renata Greiss, Paul Meisen and Nicolet. Christina Fassbender has been awarded numerous scholarships and prizes, including the national award at the "Jugend Musiziert" youth music competition (1993), third prize at the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen (1997), and the German Music Competition's top prize (2001). She was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra in 1995, and in 1997 she won the 2nd flute/piccolo position in the Bavarian Radio Orchestra. Since 1999, she has been first solo flutist at the Komische Oper in Berlin.

Christina Fassbender has performed as both a soloist and chamber musician in Germany, Canada, Chile, and Costa Rica. She has given concerts with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Symphony Orchestra (Hanover), the Orchestra of the Beethovenhalle (Bonn), and the German Chamber Orchestra, in addition to her duties at the Komische Oper. Her performances have been broadcast on South German Radio (Forum for Young Artists) and the Berlin Free Broadcasting Station (Sender freies Berlin), and has also recorded a CD of works by A. Jolivet. Her most important chamber music partners, in addition to Trio Wiek, include the Klenke Quartet (Weimar) and the Ma'alot Quintet. Christina Fassbender has held a teaching position at the Hanns-Eisler Musikhochschule since 2003.
