Nico Gerstmayer
Nico Gerstmayer was born in 1998 in Austria. Since 2016 he has studied Marimba with Bogdan Bacanu and Percussion with Leonhard Schmidinger at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität, Linz.
At the age of 18, Nico was a prize winner in the International Summer Academy Mozarteum Salzburg 2017, which led to a performance at the Salzburger Festspiele prize winner’s concert. He has frequently played as a guest in various orchestras and chamber music ensembles in venues including the Vienna Musikverein, Vienna Konzerthaus, Philharmonie de Paris, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Athenaeum Bucharest, Musical Theater Basel, Brucknerhaus Linz, Wolkenturm Grafenegg and the Felsenreitschule Salzburg. In 2018 he has played tours in Europe with the Rumanian National Orchestra conducted by Christian Mandeal. In summer 2019 Nico was soloist und jury member at the percussion festival in Valencia, Spain.
Since 2019, Nico is member of the Wave Quartet with whom he recorded a CD on the Sony Classical record label earlier this year. Highlights of the season 2018/2019 were the Premiere of a new concerto by Avner Dorman in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna and the return to Grafenegg Festival for a concert with the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich under its chief conductor Yutaka Sado.
