5 på Tvers (5 Across)- Flute Quintet from Norway

Programme:

Four Processions - Kjell Markussen
FLØY - Kari Beate Tandberg
Midsummer night Scenes - Øystein Sevåg
10 Miniatures - Konrad Michael Øhrn

Marcussen's work "Four Processions - for flute quintet" from 2012, is the quintet's first commissioned piece of music and was premiered during the Norwegian Flute Festival in Hamar in 2013. The four movements are of different character and are a demanding chamber musical work for the performers.

With Tandberg's work "FLØY" (2019), “5 Across” has developed the concept "Women in time - past to present" together with Trio Serafin. Here the focus is on female composers and their struggle for a more equal professionalism and acceptance of their work. The work "FLØY" makes extensive use of new playing techniques. An abstract musical language challenges the listener and allows for own reflections of the audience.

"Midsummer Night Scenes" by Sevåg is the quintet's latest commissioned piece of music, which was also recorded in Siddharta Spiritual Records in the summers of 2021 and 2023. The work consists of 4 movements, each with its own subtitle, and is at times characterized by a tonal language inspired by improvised rhythmical music.

"10 Miniatures" (2015) by Øhrn is a collection of 10 short character pieces/moods where certain thematic figures and motifs recur in several of the movements. “5 Across” plays excerpts from this work.
