Yi-Ping YANG has followed a highly original artistic path which first led her to cross borders in order to pursue her studies, and then to give performances in many different locations where she has been invited. Today Yi-Ping is a recognised leading young artist in the renewal of creative percussion.
After winning unanimous First Prize at the Conservatoire National de Région in Boulogne- Billancourt, she went on to complete her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse in Lyon where she won First Prize with Distinction. She then completed the Performance Programme at the CNSDM in Lyon as well as the Post-Grad course at the Conservatoire in Geneva with congratulations from the jury.
Winner of many international competitions: finalist at the ARD in Munich, Third Prize at the International Vibraphone Competition in Clermont Ferrand, Third Prize at the International Competition in Geneva, First Prize with the YARN Trio at the International Percussion Competition of Luxembourg, First Prize at the International Timpani Competition in Lyon and First Prize at the Tromp International Music Competition in Eindhoven.
She has acquired orchestral experience, firstly with the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, then with the Orchestre National de Lyon and the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon where she has played regularly since 2000. She has taken part in numerous premières with the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain since 2001 and in collaboration with Grame since 2004.
She gives regular solo performances in France as well as abroad: Switzerland, Poland, China, Holland, USA, Taiwan.
Constantly in search of new ideas Yi-Ping participates in theatre creations as a musician and actor with the troupe La Compagnie des Lumas directed by Eric Massé, and with Gilles Chavassieux at the Théâtre des Ateliers in Lyon.
Her solo performances, her subtle and powerful improvisations, and the originality of her style have been enthusiastically acclaimed both by professionals and the public.
