Alexej Gerassimez

Percussionist Alexej Gerassimez, born in Essen, Germany, is as multi-faceted as the instruments he works with. His repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary and jazz to minimal music whilst also performing his own works.

As a soloist, Alexej Gerassimez is a guest with internationally renowned orchestras, including Münchner Philharmoniker, Prager Radio Sinfonieorchester und Konzerthausorchester Berlin under the baton of conductors such as Tan Dun, Kristjan Järvi, Alexander Liebreich and Jonathan Stockhammer.

He is not only a phenomenal virtuoso, but also a creative and intelligent musician, with an incredible energy and great richness of colour. He creates solo programmes, performs with his own percussion group and is an enthusiastic chamber musician. A tour with star pianists Arthur and Lucas Jussen will take him through the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany in May 2022.
Concerts with jazz pianist Omer Klein follow in June 2022 with their jointly conceived programme "Firebird". With the SIGNUM saxophone quartet Alexej Gerassimez goes on "a journey through the universe", this successful programme "Starry Night" is also released as an album by Berlin Classics in spring 2021.

In spring 2022, the world premiere and recording (BIS records) of Kalevi Aho's Double Concerto for Viola and Percussion with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anja Bihlmaier are scheduled. The world premiere of John Psatha's concerto "Leviathan", commissioned by the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, will take place in autumn 2021 at the Berlin Philharmonie with the
Rundfunksinfonieorchester Berlin conducted by Markus Poschner, followed by a joint concert at the Elbphilharmonie, as well as concerts with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alpesh Chauhan.

The last three seasons, Alexej Gerassimez was performing at the Konzerthaus Dortmund as "Junger Wilder" and is participating in the three-year sponsorship program of the "stART academy by Bayer Kultur".

Alexej Gerassimez is professor for percussion at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
