La Casa de Colón began his career as a cultural institution in the 1950s From the beginning, it will focus its objectives in research and dissemination of the history of the Canary Islands and its relations with America.

The building, located in the historical district of Vegueta, is configured from the integration of several homes currently occupying the entire block. This site was chosen to be part of the former Governor's House, place probably visited by Christopher Columbus during the first voyage in 1492.
