Jos Verspagen

Jos studied trumpet at the Utrechs Conservatorium with Willem van der Vliet. He received diplomas both as a teaching musician (1985) and a performing musician (1986).

From the beginning of his study in 1979, Jos worked as a substitute musician with radio orchestras.  In 1983, he was appointed as solo trumpet of the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest.  He has made many CD recordings with the RFO, including a box set of all of the Mahler Symphonies on the RCA label.  Jos can be heard as solo trumpet on this set in the Second, Fifth, Sixth, Ninth Symphonies, as well as the post horn part of the Third Symphony.

Since 1998, Jos has been a member of the Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest as second trumpet. As a member of the RPO, he has toured Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan, as well as the United States, Canada, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina.  Further, he has played under many noted conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Sir Simon Rattle, Yannick Nezet-Seguin in the important concert halls of Europe. Jos has also long been associated with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble,  a wind ensemble of national and international acclaim.

The Artez Conservatorium in Zwolle hired Jos as professor in 1988.
