Wally Hase

The flutist Wally Hase was born in Freiburg and was a student of Karl Friedrich Mess. In 1986 she began studying at the Stuttgart University of Music after attending the World Youth Orchestra in the United States. She continued her studies with Jean-Claude Gérard and Aurèle Nicolet continue. Since October 2018, Wally Hase is teaching Flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

As a member of the Festival Orchestra Ludwigsburg, Wally Hase toured in China, Japan and South America. In 1989 she performed in New Zealand at the Festival of the Arts. In 1990 she was a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Society Bayreuth. Between 1990 and 1993 she was a member of the Karlsruhe Ensemble 13 and the Bach Collegium Stuttgart under the direction of Helmuth Rilling.

Already before completing her studies, Wally Hase became the solo flutist of the Staatskapelle Weimar at the age of 22, a position she held until 2009. Since 2008 she has been working regularly with the Camerata Salzburg.
As a solo flutist she works with the Staatskapelle Dresden, the radio symphony orchestras SWR Freiburg-Baden Baden, MDR Leipzig and WDR Cologne, and the Royal Orchestra of Antwerp.

In addition to solo concerts she frequently appears as a chamber musician with the Camerata Salzburg, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra, the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Chemnitz and as a duo with the guitarist Thomas Müller-Pering, together with pianist Sophia Hase and in the Almond ring quartet

Her versatile engagement as a soloist, chamber musician and founding member of various ensembles is supplemented by CD recordings, television and radio productions. In 2006 she was awarded the
‘Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik’.

In 2000, Wally Hase was appointed professor of flute at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar. Since fall 2014 she has also been a visiting professor at the University of Music in Kraków. In addition, Wally Hase teaches extensively as part of masterclasses in Europe, Australia, South America, Korea and China.

Since October 2018, Wally Hase has been Professor of Flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
