Laurence Parry

Naast zijn werk bij UB40 speelde Laurence met The Cure, The Eurythmics, Robert Palmer, Robert Plant, Tina Turner, Beyoncé, Joe Cocker, Phil Collins, Boy George, Vanessa May, Carleen Anderson, The Brand New Heavies, JTQ, Ruby Turner en BB King.

Biography

A lynchpin of the UB40 brass section for more than a decade and a half, Laurence joined the band in 1993 for the “Promises And Lies Tour” and has been an unmistakable, wisecracking, trumpet blowing force of nature, touring and recording with the band ever since.

London born, and trained in both classical music and jazz since the age of 15, Laurence didn’t waste any time in racking up his impressive list of musical credits. Joining R&B group Rent Party straight out of school, he immediately found himself touring the world, playing international jazz festivals and sharing the bill with the likes of Chic Corea, Michael Brecker and Miles Davis.

Since then he’s played with just about everyone who’s anyone in rock, pop, soul and jazz, and shared a stage with more living legends than most actual living legends have. The Cure, The Eurythmics, Robert Palmer, Robert Plant, Tina Turner, Beyoncé, Joe Cocker, Phil Collins, Boy George, Vanessa May, Carleen Anderson, The Brand New Heavies, JTQ, Ruby Turner and BB King are highlights in a career which also includes the ultimate honour of playing alongside James Brown’s backing band, The JBs.

Although most recognised and admired for his undeniably fine trumpeting skills, Laurence can also do amazing things with a trombone, flugelhorn, cornet, keyboard and percussion, and when not playing with the UBs puts his talents to use scoring for film and TV, including themes for the BBC, ITV, LWT, Sky, Disney and The Discovery Channel.

In addition to his many musical gifts, Laurence is also famed for his sparkling sense of humour and razor-sharp wit; no doubt acquired during his stint playing with Lenny Henry.
