Luk Nielandt

Luk Nielandt studied oboe at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Jan De Maeyer and then three years with Maurice Bourgue in Paris and Thomas Indermühle in Amsterdam, with whom he continued to collaborate regularly.

When he became solo oboist of the Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra in 1985, he was also appointed oboe teacher at the Royal Flemish Conservatory. In addition, he was a teacher at the Tilburg Conservatory in the Netherlands for several years. He regularly gave masterclasses in almost all of Europe. Luk Nielandt was laureate of the Tenuto competition and received the Annie Rutzky Prize.

In 2001 he was accepted as solo oboist of the Koninklijke Muntschouwburg/Nationale Opera in Brussels by A.Pappano after having been solo oboist of the Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra and the South Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra for many years. He was part of the Prometheus Ensemble, which performed chamber music ranging from Mozart to numerous creations. CD recordings including Mozart's Gran Partita, Belgian contemporary work, a Schumann-Loeffler CD, etc. have been released.

In 2016 he started the research project 'An Equal Music' at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. This research includes an exploration of shawms, pomeranians and dulcians of the Renaissance period and their contemporary equivalents, the entire modern oboe and bassoon family. His ensemble aDoRe, which brings both renaissance consort music and contemporary creations, consists of colleagues, students and former students of oboe and bassoon.

He has soloed in oboe concertos by Bach, Mozart, Martinu, Strauss, Lutoslawski, Schnittke, Luc Van Hove, etc., with conductors such as Ono, Krenz, Shipway, Soustrot, Eötvös, Altinoglu and Joo. January-February '23 Strauss is on the bill. A regular guest at I Solisti del Vento and a member of the Monnaie Wind Quintet. Since the foundation of Le Concert Olympique conducted by Jan Caeyers, he has also been a member of this chamber orchestra.
