Freek Sluijs

The bassoon has been an inseparable part of Freek Sluijs's life since he was fifteen years old. He started with bassoon lessons with Hans Vos and soon entered the preparatory training at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where Freek studied with Henk de Wit and completed his studies with Joep Terwey. Shortly after his final exams, he auditioned for the second bassoon position in the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he is still a member after 36 years. Freek Sluijs is also a music director at Stichting Omroep Muziek and produces recordings for radio, podcast and CD.

Freek played with the Amsterdam Mozart Players and was co-founder and member of the Hexagon Ensemble for 15 years. He took lessons on the historical bassoons with David Mings and plays in the ensemble Rabaskadol of instrument builder Fritz Heller.

He has also been a member of the board of the BassoonNetwerk for several years.
