Workshop New Sound Worlds
In this unique workshop, led by Matthias Ziegler, you will learn to discover new sound worlds on your flute. By means of improvisation methods you will look for the boundaries of your sound world and learn to broaden and push these.
The first approach to contemporary music very often focuses on ”Extended Techniques” instead of addressing imagination as a key to the new sound worlds. The group workshop brings creativity into the practice room, developing a method for enhancing contemporary playing techniques through experimentation and improvisation - by discovering the ‘why’ before identifying the ‘how’. Understanding the improvisational aspects of creation helps to broaden the concepts of interpretation for many genres of music.
Matthias Ziegler is Professor for flute and improvisation at Zurich University of the Arts. His search for new sounds has enormously broadened the expressive potential of the traditional flute and the electro-acoustically amplified contrabass flute.
