Tromp International Music Competition
Tromp International Music Competition and Festival will take place in Muziekcentrum Frits Philips Eindhoven from 7 until 15 October 2006. No less than 40 young musicians from all around the world have enlisted to participate in the competition, which this year focuses on percussion. The jury is currently processing the applications and will announce the definite participants of the music competition mid June. Applications for the Music Competition 40 young musicians from 15 different countries have enlisted for the contest. Germany holds the crown followed by Poland, Japan and The Netherlands. Of the 40 participants, 26 are male and 14 are female, all between 19 and 30 years of age. From these 40 percussionists the jury will select 20 who will be invited to participate in the music competition in October. A jury with famous names The international Tromp jury is now confirmed. Jury members are Evelyn Glennie (Great Britain), Trilok Gurtu (India), Paul Koek (The Netherlands), Arnold Marinissen (The Netherlands), Peter Sadlo (Germany) and chairman Emile Wennekes (The Netherlands). All are famous in the percussion world. Evelyn Glennie is one of the world’s best percussionists and has performed a total of almost 150 solo percussion world premieres. Trilok Gurtu has held first place for years as world music percussionist. Paul Koek is director music theatre at the Veenfabriek and is also percussionist. He has directed for ZT Hollandia together with Johan Simons. Arnold Marinissen is one of the most versatile Dutch percussionists and plays both as soloist and as chamber musician with famous international orchestras. Peter Sadlo is one of Germany’s most prominent percussionists and played wich the Münchner Philharmoniker. Emile Wennekes is the chairman of the jury and professor of Music History at the University of Utrecht. He has also published books related to music history. Youth jury from the St. Joriscollege in Eindhoven The Tromp Music Competition also has a youth jury. At the end of the Tromp week these jury members will choose ‘their’ winner. The youth jury consists of Floor van der Holst, Lisa Beekwilder, Wouter Kerkhofs, Roos Rademakers and Freek Flos. These 17-year old youth jury members all attend the St. Joriscollege in Eindhoven. Tromp Festival throughout the city of Eindhoven Next to the Tromp Competition is the Tromp Festival; a citywide festival with the theme ‘sensed sounds’.
