How does the fitting process work?
The following steps are required for fitting hearing protection or in-ear monitors. If you have any questions or special requests, feel free to contact us for more information.
1. Make an Appointment
Start by scheduling an appointment. During our first meeting, we’ll discuss your musical environment: do you play in an orchestra, a rock band, or a brass ensemble? Each scenario requires a specific solution. Together, we’ll choose the hearing protection that best suits your situation.
2. Tailored Product Advice
We’ll explain your options:
Filters: For musicians, filters that maintain sound quality while dampening harmful peaks are crucial. Think of filters with flat attenuation, specially designed for music.
Fit and Material: We offer lightweight, comfortable solutions that you can wear for hours without distraction.
3. Inspection of Your Ear Canal
One of our specialists will check your ear canal using an otoscope. This ensures there are no blockages, such as earwax, in the way. If everything is clear, we proceed with the fitting process.
4. Taking Ear Impressions
This is where the customization begins:
- We place a soft, protective plug in your ear canal.
- Using a special silicone material, we create a detailed impression of your ear canal and outer ear.
- Within a few minutes, the material hardens, and we safely remove it.
This precise impression serves as the foundation for your custom-made hearing protection.
5. Production and Delivery Time
The ear impression is sent to Variphone. Your hearing protection is custom-made there, including the chosen filter. This process usually takes 2-3 weeks.
6. Fitting and Usage Instructions
Once your hearing protection is ready, you’ll come in for a fitting:
- We check that they fit perfectly and feel comfortable.
- You’ll receive clear instructions on how to insert and remove them, as well as how to use them optimally during rehearsals, performances, or studio sessions.
7. Maintenance and Aftercare
To keep your hearing protection in top condition, you’ll receive tips on maintenance and cleaning. If you have questions later or if the fit changes over time, you can always contact us for adjustments or advice. Heidi can test your old earplugs for potential leaks.
