Jan Hodánek
Jan Hodánek – principal English Horn and oboist of the Prague Symphony Orchestra
Jan began his oboe studies under the guidance of MgA. Zdenek Hebda, solo oboist of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra (SOCR). He continued his training with MgA. Hebda during his studies at the conservatory. Subsequently, he pursued further education at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU), graduating in 2001 under the tutelage of MgA. Jana Brožková, solo oboist of the Czech Philharmonic.
During his conservatory years, he became the principal oboist of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra. Since 2000, he has been a member of the oboe section in the Prague Symphony Orchestra (Symfonický orchestr hl. m. Prahy FOK). For several seasons, he was also a member of the orchestra of the National Theatre (ND).
Jan is a sought-after chamber musician, collaborating closely with the Prague Wind Quintet and performing as a guest with ensembles such as the Stamic Quartet and the Martinu Trio. He frequently appears as a soloist as well.
Alongside his performing career, Jan is dedicated to teaching. Since 2012, he has served as a professor at the Prague Conservatory.
Since 2021 he works regularly as an artist and specialist (technician and designer) with the Thore Woodwinds.
