Schnellar and Classic Timpani

16 August 2006

At the Frankfurt Music Fair Adams Musical Instruments introduced two top-of-the-range Philharmonic timpani series. Below you can find information about our Schnellar and Classic timpani. For more information, please feel free to contact us.

Philharmonic Schnellar Timpani

Adams is proud to present you a new top-of-the-range Philharmonic timpani: the Schnellar model.
Based on a timpani from the early 20th century, Adams developed this timpani in cooperation with the timpani players of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Nick Woud and Marinus Komst.

The most exceptional feature of the timpani is the way of tuning. Instead of pulling the skin down over the kettle, it is the kettle that is pushed up against the skin. So the kettle is not mounted on a ring, but it is supported by a scale and pushed with upward pressure to the head. Because of this, the kettle is more free and therefor affects the timpani sound in a positive way.

The Philharmonic Schnellar features our redesigned and patented split rocker arm system. This unique system decreases the pressure on the frame of the timpani. This will prevent against any change in the shape of the frame or bowl.

Without any doubt this new Adams timpani, equipped with a refined pedal mechanism in the old ratchet style, is the most innovative timpani model at the moment.

Philharmonic Classic Timpani

After the introduction of the Philharmonic Classic timpani with Dresden pedal last year, Adams now completes the Classic line with an old-ratchet-style timpani equipped with a Berlin pedal system.

This lightweight series is equipped with a pedal mechanism in the old style ratchet, a very basic system like in former days. More and more musicians asked for a timpani with an authentic character. And because Adams is a company of continuous innovation and development, we now proudly present this new model.

The Philharmonic Classic featured our redesigned patented split rocker arm system. A unique system with an amazing design that decreases the pressure on the frame of the timpani. This will prevent against any flex or changes in the shape of the frame or bowl. Another great advantage of the Classic is that an extra bar for connection from the front axle to the cam is no longer needed. This is one of the reasons that make the new model an absolutely lightweight with a great design.

Adams Musical Instruments exceeds themselves again with a very nice designed timpani with ratchet tuning pedal. The authentic character, easy operation, and the terrific sound make the Philharmonic Classic a timpani of the very highest standard.
