Javier Eguillor Valera

He is the solo timpanist of the Valencia Orchestra since March 2002. He was born in Xixona in 1975 where he began his musical studies. He continued his training at the Conservatory of Music Oscar Esplá in Alicante, winning two special awards and finishing his career with high honors. He studied for a further three years with the solo timpanist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Rainer Seegers, and one year in Monaco with the Monte Carlo Orchestra timpanist, Julian Bourgeois.

In 1990 he was invited by the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE) to perform a concert tour and a performance at the Carnegie Centenary Hall in New York for the celebration of its centenary. A year later he was awarded permanent membership of the JONDE, where he remained from 1991 to 1995. During this period he performed in different Spanish Halls under the baton of Ros Marbá, Salvador More, Christopher Halfter, Víctor Pablo Pérez and Edmon Colomer. He recorded "Atlantis" by Manuel de Falla, "Epitalamio" by Roberto Gerhard and "Alborada del gracioso” by Ravel.

During the years 1994-1995 he was a student at the Jazz Creative School in  Madrid with drummer Carlos Carli. He collaborated as a drummer in the film "Allegro ma non troppo" directed by Fernando Colomo.

In December 1995, he joined the World Orchestra under the baton of Yehudi Menuhin, for a concert tour of Germany and Denmark, during which, at the Berlin Orchestra Concert Hall, Britten’s "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra " and Stravinsky’s  “The Firebird” were recorded.

In February 1996 he was elected member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and toured though Europe, performing in the most prestigious auditoriums such as the Tchaikovsky Hall in Russia, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s Hall, Albert Hall in London (PROMS), Musikverein in Vienna, under the baton of Sir Colin Davis, Bernard Haitink, Gennadi Rozhdestvenshy, Carlo Maria Giulini and Vladimir Ashkenazy. He has worked with soloists such as Radu Lupu, Emanuel Ax, Maria Joao Pires and Sarah Chang. During this period he recorded "The Enigma Variations" (E. Elgar) with Sir Colin Davis.

In 1998 he performed two concerts at the Music Festival in Santander and San Sebastian with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zubin Mehta. He has performed with the Percussion Group of Amsterdam (NSA) participating in the Festival of Santander. He frequently collaborates as solo timpanist with some of the most important Spanish orchestras such as Orchestra del Liceu in Barcelona, Bilbao Orchestra, RTVE Orchestra and Cadaqués Orchestra. He is currently a guest professor of the JMWO (Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra) and JOGV (Youth Orchestra of Valencia), JONDE and JORCAM (Community of Madrid Young Orchestra).

He is currently a member of BandArt, formed by soloists from some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras and whose leader is the concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra, Gordan Nikolic. This formation is chaired by Sir Colin Davis.
