Kevin Sanders

Dr. Kevin Sanders is an associate professor of tuba and euphonium at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis. While at Memphis, his students have been highly successful in national and international competitions including the International Tuba Euphonium Association’s competitions and the Leonarde Falcone International Tuba-Euphonium Competition. Since 2014, the University of Memphis Tuba Ensemble has released three CDs entitled Axis, Tuba Carols, and Tubas in Love.

Dr. Sanders has been a performer and clinician in Europe, Asia, and North and South America.  He has performed with the American Brass Quintet, Detroit Symphony, Royal Scottish National Symphony, Macau Orchestra (China), Memphis Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, Spoleto USA Festival Orchestra, Music in the Mountains Festival, New World Symphony, Chicago Civic Orchestra, and the Jeunesse Musicales World Orchestra for their North American and European tours.  As a soloist, Sanders released his debut solo CD, Long Distance, in the fall of 2014.  He can also be heard on the 2011 release of “Radiant Blues” on Mark Records, which includes Charles Booker’s Sonatina for Tuba and Wind Ensemble with the University of Memphis Wind Ensemble.

A devoted educator, Dr. Sanders has co-authored a play-a-long fundamentals routine for brass, woodwind, and percussionists entitled The Hollywood Warm-Up.  He also serves as the administrator for Band Director Academy, a four-day workshop for music educators with Pat Sheridan and Sam Pilafian.  He has also served on the board of the Memphis Youth Symphony and Concert’s International and been a featured clinician at the International Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Washington D.C. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference, and International Tuba-Euphonium Conferences. 

Dr. Sanders has held teaching positions at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, SUNY-Potsdam Crane School of Music, Arkansas Governor’s School, and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. 

Dr. Sanders holds degrees from the Interlochen Arts Academy, Indiana University, The Juilliard School and Michigan State University.  More information can be found on his University of Memphis studio website tuba.memphis.edu
